Tangerine editors win Syracuse Press Club awards


Tangerine Editor-in-Chief James McClendon and Managing News Editor Ben Mehic won top honors in the feature writing category at the Syracuse Press Club awards ceremony on May 6. The ceremony honored professional and student journalists in Central New York.

Mehic won first place for his story “The Reality of Mental Illnesss” about the impact and stigmas surrounding people with psychological disorders living in the Mohawk Valley.

McClendon’s profile, “Greg Roberts: Forever a Pioneer,” won second place for painting a picture of the late Greg Roberts, who was a beloved figure in the UC athletics department.

The awards ceremony was held at the Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse.
