Students get creative for Halloween

Morgan Manfredo

Staff Writer

As Halloween comes and goes, the costumes people seem to wear are getting more creative every year. Whether it is a basic idea with a twist or something completely out of the ordinary, everyone loves the idea of being a different person for the night. It is the chance to show others the true imagination people have when coming up with a costume idea.

When it comes to Halloween, people can get as dressed up or dressed down as they want to be without anyone judging them. It is everyone’s chance to freely be whatever they want, and that is the beauty behind Halloween.

Sophomore Marissa Hajec said that the easiest way to save money on Halloween is using accessories and clothing items that you already have.

“I’m being Sandy from Grease,” Hajec said. “I already have most things like earrings, belt, lipstick, and pants. The only thing I spent money on

was my body suite, which I found on Charlotte Russe online, it only cost me $20!”

Hajec said she came up with her idea by looking on Pinterest.

“Pinterest was so helpful because I wanted to do a couples themed costume, and the site had so many ideas to chose from,” Hajec said.

Sophomore Stephen Soria is being Danny along side Hajec.

“Finding a costume we both liked and wanted to wear was hard but I’m glad we found the Grease costumes,” Soria said.

He also said that it was a simple costume for him too, because he already had everything for his out t.

“It’s an easy costume to put together, and people will obviously get what we are,” he said.

“We are both really excited to dress up and have fun with our friends!” Hajec and Soria said.

Marissa also said she’s excited to eat all the candy, especially Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

Brenna Lyons, a sophomore at Utica College as well, is being a nurse for Halloween

this year.
“I didn’t buy my costume,”

Lyons said. “I made it because it saves so much more money and you can make them ten times cuter than the actual set.”

Along with Hajec, Lyons found her costume idea on Pinterest and looking at other costumes from the Halloween store.

“I’m using my own clothes, and I just bought accessories in Halloween stores that they had for nurse costumes and they have a lot of cute stuff that you can get that doesn’t come with an actual costume,” Lyons said.

Lyons also said that Pinterest is a huge life savior when it comes to making a costume more creative and different.

“It just saves a lot of money to make your own costume, especially for college students who go away and aren’t working while they are at school,” she said.

Lyons said that she is most excited to get all dressed up with her friends and see what everyone is being because Halloween is her favorite time the year.
