After losing the last five games, the Utica College women’s basketball team looked to finish their 2016-2017 season off with a win against Elmira College. It was also senior day for lone senior Calypso Carty.
In the first half, both the Pioneers and the Soaring Eagles were even shooting 32 percent from the field.
Even though Elmira outrebounded Utica 28-15, the Pioneers had a one-point lead at halftime as sophomore Rachel Hunter led the team with eight points.
The Pioneers played more aggressively on defense in the second half as they had 19 defensive rebounds and held Elmira on offense to just 26 percent shooting.
The Pioneers went on to win 56-44 to finish 5-11 in the Empire 8, 7-18 overall.
Hunter finished the game with a team-high 12 points for the Pioneers while junior Danielle Cleary led the Soaring Eagles with 13 points. Carty finished the last game of her collegiate career with 10 points.
