On a cold and wet Tuesday night, the back lawn of Strebel Center got pretty colorful when the International Student Union hosted Desi Drip: Festival of Colors.
Revati Nishant Nasikkar, one of the organizers, said the event celebrates the arrival of spring by bringing together different cultures through color and community activity.
The March 2 celebration drew inspiration from traditions in countries such as India where similar festivals mark the changing of seasons. Participants also incorporate water and colorful powders into the festivities as a way to welcome warmer weather and celebrate unity.
“The event is really about different cultures coming together to celebrate the beginning of spring,” Nasikkar said. “It’s not tied to just one particular culture—it’s about people sharing traditions and enjoying the moment together.”
Wyatt Callahan, a psychology major, said attending the event was a good opportunity to support Nasikkar and the international student community on campus.
Callahan said he had encountered her several times before and was drawn to the event’s colorful atmosphere.
“I’ve run into Revati multiple times, and I really like color,” Callahan said. “I wanted to support Revati and the international students and be part of a fun group.”
