The Oct. 29 Jackson Lunch Hour Series did not disappoint as the audience was treated to a performance by Trivium, an ensemble celebrating the art of chamber music.
Trivium, made up of pianist Robbie Padilla, clarinetist Colleen O’Neil and hornist Claire Tuxill McKenney, formed earlier this year but O’Neil and McKinney have performed together since 2010. They chose the Latin word trivium as their ensemble name because it means “where three roads meet” and reflects the trio’s instrumentation and intersection of their artistic voices.
The trio played pieces such as Robert Kahn’s “Serenade in F minor,” “Suite for Clarinet, Horn & Piano by Alex Wilder, “Ronde de Printemps” by Heinrich Molbe, “Nocturno,” by Pablo Llamazares, “Trio” by Maximilian Heidrich and “Three Paintings” by Gina Gillie.
Their performance was truly enjoyable as it intersected contemporary, jazz and romanticism styles.
There are three more Jackson Lunch Hour Series performances left this semester and all start at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Library Concourse. They include:
- Nov. 12: Utica University String Ensemble, directed by Tina Oyer Ponce
- Nov. 19: Utica University Band, directed by Michael DiMeo
- Dec. 3: Utica University Choir, directed by Lynne Ferrara and accompanied by Alane Varga
