No, it is not Christmas, but it feels like it since football season is finally here once again.

There is just something about college football that excites fans every season — going to a game on a cool, brisk autumn day at your favorite team’s stadium is something all fans can look forward to.

For Utica College students like Kelsey Brooks, a junior, a new season means opportunity to cheer for her favorite team.

Brooks is a Florida Gators fan, but for her college football is a family affair.

“I’m excited about games versus Alabama because that’s my sister’s team, so that’s fun,” Brooks said.

Brooks is not the only one looking forward to watching the Florida Gators play this season.

Georgiannah Landers, a sophomore, is looking forward to watching them as well. However, she will be rooting against them, as Landers’s favorite team is South Carolina.

“I’m most excited about watching South Carolina play Florida because they are both southern states,” Landers said.

Landers explained that the players themselves are what makes college football feel special. She loves that playing college football can lead to such a great opportunity for the players who dedicate their time to it.

While some students have specific teams or games that they are looking forward to watching, others are just excited about football season in general.

Jaron Wallace, a junior, is an Alabama fan, but he likes watching college football as a whole.

“You can see the fans excitement when you watch college football,” Wallace said.

For other students on campus, their favorite Division 1 team is right in their backyard

Sophomore Noah Britt likes watching Syracuse, and matchup he is looking forward to the most this season is when the Orange play Clemson.

“I’m looking forward to Clemson vs Syracuse because Clemson is the number two team,” Britt said.

While the big schools started play last week, so to did UC’s very own Pioneers, who kicked off their season with a gritty 9-6 win in overtime against St. Lawrence University on Aug. 31, then followed it up with 45-21 triumph over The Catholic University of America in the home opener.
