Nine months after Utica College’s lockdown scare, a former student accused of perpetrating the events of March 5 was found guilty.

Fahrudin Omerovic, 24, was deemed guilty on two counts of making a terroristic threat in Oneida County Court, according to the Observer-Dispatch.

Arrested on March 6, Omerovic was identified by law enforcement as the lone source of multiple threats made to the college using identity-cloaking phone software, prompting an eight-hour lockdown on the UC campus.

In a campus-wide message to students, President Laura Casamento expressed gratitude towards the “law enforcement community,” including the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office and the Utica Police Department, “for their tireless efforts in identifying, arresting and

prosecuting the individual responsible for causing fear and unrest.”

“For many of us, particularly for those who testified, the trial and the ensuing media coverage has caused us to relive the range of difficult and unpleasant emotions that we experienced last March,” Casamento said. “I want to thank the administrators and students who testified, and I want to thank the administrators who attended the trial for supporting those who testified.

“Most of all, I want to thank members of the college community, who overwhelmingly helped to support one another last year and who have continued to support each other in our quest for closure.”

According to the OD, Omerovic, facing two to seven years of prison time per count, will be officially sentenced on Jan. 29.
