Dance music marathon to air January 28

Underground music show Club 907 celebrates 5 years with WPNR

Kyle Riecker, Layout Editor

College radio has always been a haven for alternative genres of music. For the past 5 years, WPNR has hosted Club 907, a show focusing on underground dance music.

On Jan. 28, Club 907 is celebrating its fifth anniversary of broadcasting with a marathon show. Since 2012, the show has featured guest mixes and interviews from dozens of prominent names in the electronic dance music scene, such as Bad Boy Bill, Minnesota and Frankie Bones. The show has also supported DJs from the local scene, who otherwise wouldn’t have the chance to be on the radio.

“The most rewarding part has always been the main reason to do it, which is two-fold,” said Doug Croft, WPNR station manager and co-host.

“We are providing an outlet for artists and DJs to be heard on radio and live streaming on the Internet that don’t get the attention they deserve for their hard work and creativity. At the same time, we’re giving listeners the opportunity to hear sounds of the underground dance music genre from their local DJ all way up to internationally known artists on the same show.”

The Club 907 marathon show will air on Jan. 28, starting at 6 p.m. with a live DJ set from Marcola, who is signed to the international techno label Interlink.

Interlink has had several tracks chart in the top 100 on Beatport, and also hosts underground dance parties in the area. At 10 p.m, the hosts of the show, DJ This, Doug Croft and Karen Tender, will have an interview and the marathon will start shortly after.

Students are encouraged to stop down to WPNR on the second floor of Strebel to watch Marcola perform live on the air from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
