The Pioneer Players will present the musical “Baby” on April 4, 5, 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Strebel Auditorium.
“Baby” is a comedic look at how parents-to-be experience the emotional stresses and triumphs that come with anticipating the arrival of a baby, according to Music Theatre International online.
The production has a variety of cast members including many from the Utica University as well as some residents in the local community.
Director Dennis Clark said he’s excited to direct a comedy as the show is different from others he has done in the past. The musical is relatable to many different audiences and age groups.
Clark had to direct the actors differently because it depicts people at three completely different stages of their lives. Three couples find out they are having a baby; one is in their 20’s, one is 30 and the other is 40. All of their situations are different, which is what makes the show exciting, he said.
“The biggest challenge in directing this production is to keep it moving to all the various locations,” Clark said. “I have simplified the set to create different vignettes and make sure that the pace of the show stays constantly moving.”
He wants to keep the production constantly moving and make sure everything stays on pace, and hopes audiences
Tickets are $15, but admission is free for Utica University. They can be bought at the door and through Eventbrite.
