Utica University’s Campus Safety announced it will be working with the Utica Police Department to locate the missing pieces of several fire hydrants throughout the local area via a campus-wide email sent on Oct. 17.
“If you have any of these items or have any signage or property that does not belong to you, there will be an amnesty period through [to] 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23,” the email said. “After the amnesty period, the owner of the fire hydrants may press charges.”
Director of Campus Safety Roberta Comerford said though the events occurred outside of the Utica University campus — the reason for offering the amnesty period was due to UPD’s hope of returning the missing fire hydrant pieces or signages to their proper locations.
“As you can imagine, those fire hydrants are vital to the safety of our local residents and we want to be good partners with our community,” Comerford said. “If any of our Utica University students or employees have any information they can provide or share with the police, it would be appreciated.”
