The Career Closet, organized by the Center for Career Readiness, has relocated and is now open to students in need of professional clothing for career-related activities, such as job interviews, internships and networking events.
Students can acquire professional clothing free of charge and appointments must be scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays through Handshake. The closet is located in the basement of Hubbard Hall in rooms B6 and B7.
The two rooms are well stocked with inventory as racks of men’s and women’s clothing fill the spaces and a “fashion curator” will be on hand to help students when they browse and try on items, according to Alicia Contreras, a public relations specialist for the Center for Career Readiness.
Those who would like to donate clothes can drop them off anytime on Fridays. While the Career Closet accepts any professional clothing, men’s clothing items are more in need, including ties, polo shirts, dress shirts, etc.
The Center for Career Readiness is also gearing up for their fall networking and empowering event on Tuesday, Nov. 4 from 5 – 7:30 p.m. in Hislop Auditorium. A panel of 10 industry professionals will meet with students and help them build confidence and strengthen networking skills.
The Center for Career Readiness has held skills building events throughout the fall semester leading up to this event, so several students already have resume, cover letter and “pitch” practice under their belts. Panelists include:
- Erin K. Noto, Executive Director of Career and Technical Education, Syracuse City School District
- Dom Passalacqua, Director of Special Projects, Passalacqua & Associates
- Kari Puleo, Executive Director, Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce
- Eddie Barrone, Community Development Manager, First Source Federal Credit Union
- Deb Grogan, Community Development Specialist, First Source Federal Credit Union
- Michele Davis, Talent Acquisition Partner, Mohawk Valley Health System
- Tracey Aust, Director of Talent Acquisition, Mohawk Valley Health System
- Maria Vacca, Talent Specialist, Indium Corporation
- Crystal Graves, Chief People Officer, Gilroy, Kernan & Gilroy

Professional head shots, food and beverages, a photo booth and basket giveaways will also be available during the event.
