Uno, Dos, Tres! Cinco, Seis, Siete! That’s what students were shouting during Latin Dance Night sponsored by Fuerza Latina on Oct. 8 when around 20 students gathered in the Library Concourse to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
This year is the second year that Fuerza Latina invited Jair Chara, a Latin dance instructor and professional from Colombia, to provide lessons in Latin dance. He was accompanied by Utica’s own Hilda Jordan, who helped teach the class alongside Chara. The experience was bilingual and focused on basic Salsa steps. At the end of the lesson, students were able to open dance to salsa music using the steps they learned.
The Fuerza Latina student organization meets every Wednesday in Boehlert Hall for any students looking to connect with Hispanic and Latino culture and students here on campus.
