Utica University’s Theatre Department has been rehearsing and producing the play Antigone and it’s set to run from Thursday, Oct. 23 to Saturday Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. in Strebel Auditorium.
“Antigone is an ancient Greek tragedy about what happens when the rule of law is pitted against morality: when lawmakers make unjust or immoral laws, should citizens follow the law or the dictates of their own conscience?” Director Rachel Wolfe said. “In our production, which mixes contemporary dress with archaic language, reconfigures known symbols, and contains spoken drama, dance, and film, we see what happens in a strange but familiar universe when one young woman stands up against a tyrant.”
Thursday’s performance will feature a one-night-only appearance by the campus dance troupe Africa in Motion, Wolfe encourages those who can go on Thursday to do so.
Tickets can be purchased at the door in front of Strebel Auditorium: $4 for Utica University students and $6 for general admission.
