UC Theatre takes on Mel Brooks’ spy comedy

Tobias Neto, Staff Writer

From Nov. 4-6, Utica College hosted “Get Smart” – a theatrical play originally created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, telling a story that delivers a witty and intelligent play on words.

The plot is centered around a sinister organization called “KAOS” and two agents who sprung, and often stumbled, into action to stop their plans.

On opening night, the Strebel Theater was packed with both UC students and those in the community who came out to support the actors and actresses. As a Liberal Arts institution, UC has remained committed to exposing performances and giving students the platform to express their creativity.

Director of the play Rusty Ritzel said that he has waited a long time to put on “Get Smart” and a number of places turned him down. That’s when UC opened its doors and gave him the go-ahead to put on the show.

Matthew McDaniels, a sophomore, played the characters Garth and had a blast doing so.
